How Important Is Workplace Culture?

Positive business culture is no longer a nice-to-have; it drives employee engagement, job satisfaction and staff retention.

An organisation’s culture is in reality it’s personality and character; it defines business success. Simply stated, “it is the way things are done around here.” (Deal & Kennedy, 2000). Successful organisations such as Costco, Starbucks and Google pay attention to their personality and character and their success is aided by providing an extremely positive culture.

Corporate culture is as crucial as an organisation’s business strategy because it either improves or reduces the effect of it’s objectives. HR plays a significant role. Pay, performance management, training and development, recruitment and induction and reinforcing the values of the business are all essential elements of business culture and are embedded in the fabric of HR.
