5 Ways to Help Your Employees Maintain Work-Life Balance While Working Remotely: Are You Supporting Their Wellbeing?

75% of remote workers reported struggling to maintain a clear boundary between work and personal life according to a study reported in 2022.

Work-life balance is crucial for both professional success and personal well-being. Without it, employees risk burnout and exhaustion, which can undermine their productivity. Prioritizing employee well-being is essential, as it directly impacts the quality of their work.

In this blog, we’ll explore five key strategies to help your remote employees maintain a healthy work-life balance and boost their productivity.

What Is A Work-Life Balance?

Work-life balance is achieving a harmonious relationship between your personal and professional lives. It means ensuring you have enough time for yourself, so work doesn’t overwhelm you or consume most of your time. By engaging in positive activities outside of work, you enhance your overall well-being. This balance allows you to focus and be productive when you are working.

5 Ways You Can Support Your Employees To Maintain A Work-Life Balance While Remote Working

1. Encourage Breaks – Taking breaks when in the office can sometimes be more consistent with employees as they may have more of a routine, so when they are working remotely it can be useful to send a message and check they have had a break. Having a break is important to give them a rest in order to then regain focus and feel more refreshed.

2. Time management – It is crucial that employees can be supported when it comes to time management in order for them to stay organised in and out of the office, allowing them to see their days clearly can allow them to balance their work life with their personal life.

3. Disconnect – Working from home can feel intrusive as the ‘workplace’ is now within your personal space, in order for employees to avoid the intrusive feeling as much as possible, it’s important to allow them to disconnect from work when it’s time and not answer emails in the evening or at the weekend for example.

 4. Encourage maintaining a morning routine – Ensure that employees have a morning routine before logging on that isn’t focused on work. Encourage a healthy breakfast, a relaxing atmosphere and maybe an exercise in order to allow them to not over consume themselves with work first thing in the morning, allowing them to feel prepared when it is time to begin work for the day.

5. Having a designated work space – Encourage employees to have a home office space that separates life from work, this can be beneficial as it allows them to have that separation which promotes productivity as well as letting them disconnect from work when away from that space.

Implementing these strategies can significantly enhance your employees’ well-being and productivity while working remotely, leading to a more balanced, motivated, and efficient workforce that can thrive in a remote working environment.
